US researchers improve the organic light emitting diode technology
U.S. researchers have developed a new "spin-polarized" organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology, photochromic sheets improved organic light-emitting diodes with common light-emitting diode (LED), compared with more advantages.
OLED refers to organic light-emitting material in the electric field of technology, it has self-luminous, no backlight, colorful, low power consumption. The researchers believe that after effectively improve OLED luminous efficiency, reduce manufacturing costs, OLED is expected to replace the current widely used in computers, televisions, lighting equipment and other electronic products LED.
Researchers at the University of Utah research report published in the latest issue of the American magazine "Science" that they developed a new OLED using a device called an organic spin valve. This device has a three-layer structure, the organic semiconductor layer corresponds to the middle on both sides of the ferromagnetic metal shells. The organic layer is made of a glow in the dark pebbles polymer called "Deuterium-DOO-PPV", which may give a polymer of orange light, low cost, can enhance the emission efficiency. The entire device very thin, can be installed inside the lamp.
The researchers said that this technology is currently only work at low temperatures, need to be further improved to meet the requirements of working at room temperature. In addition, it is desirable to produce a white light OLED.
